SEQUATCHIE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FOUND WITH GUN

A Sequatchie County High School student has been charged with bringing a gun to school on the first day back from Christmas break. County Sheriff Coy Swanger says the freshman was spotted with the handgun Monday afternoon. A teacher was told about the weapon who then notified the school’s SRO. The officer discovered the small-caliber, semi-automatic gun in the student’s backpack. The boy was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and was transported to Putnam County’s Juvenile Detention Center. Sequatchie County Director of Schools Michael Swafford stated the gun was not loaded. Dunlap Police assisted in the incident.
