SEVERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES CONDUCT DUI CHECKPOINTS
The Roane County Sheriff’s Department supported in a multi-agency DUI checkpoint on Highway 27 at the Roane/Rhea county line last night.
At the same time, the Wartburg Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department teamed up with several agencies for the same purpose.
These efforts are in conjunction with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to rid the roadways of impaired drivers and decrease alcohol related crashes. The number of known alcohol-related crashes in Tennessee in 2019 and 2020 have been on the rise. Individuals that make the reckless and dangerous choice to drink and drive are risking their license, their freedom, their life, and the lives of others. These law enforcement agencies are committed to keeping their community, as well as travelers, safe by helping them arrive safely at their destinations.
Officer’s overtime for these checkpoints is funded through a grant with the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
