A significant round of severe weather is expected to impact much of Tennessee from late Sunday night into Monday, with all modes of severe storms possible, including damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) of severe weather is in place for much of Middle Tennessee Sunday night into early Monday morning. This includes cities such as Nashville, Clarksville, and Murfreesboro. Storms in this area could produce damaging winds over 70 mph, hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and tornadoes—some of which could be strong. Timing for the most intense activity is expected between 10 PM Sunday and 7 AM Monday, although slight timing shifts are possible.

Farther east, the National Weather Service in Morristown has outlined a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) across East Tennessee, including Knoxville, Oak Ridge, and Morristown, with a Marginal Risk extending into the Tri-Cities and portions of southwest Virginia and western North Carolina. These storms will arrive late Sunday night and could linger into Monday morning. The main threats here include damaging winds and heavy rainfall, with a lower—but non-zero—risk for hail and isolated tornadoes.

By Monday, the threat shifts eastward, but East Tennessee and surrounding areas remain under a Slight Risk into the afternoon. Scattered storms could continue to pose a risk of damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, and isolated tornadoes.

Residents are strongly encouraged to review severe weather safety plans now, and ensure they have multiple, reliable ways to receive warnings—especially ones that will wake them up overnight.
