SEVERE STORMS TARGET TENNESSEE TODAY

Tennessee is bracing for a volatile day of weather as the National Weather Service has issued an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms across Middle Tennessee and parts of East Tennessee today and tonight.
According to early morning briefings from the National Weather Service offices in Nashville and Morristown, all severe weather hazards are on the table—damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes, including the potential for strong tornadoes.
Middle Tennessee:
The Nashville NWS Office warns of severe storms beginning this afternoon and continuing into the evening. Large hail up to the size of golf balls, wind gusts over 65 mph, and tornadoes are possible. The most intense activity is expected later in the day, but morning storms are also possible. Confidence in the overall threat is high, although the exact storm structure—whether supercells or clusters—is still uncertain.
Adding urgency to the situation, NOAA Weather Radios across Middle Tennessee are currently out of service. Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive warnings—including mobile alerts, local news, and social media.
East Tennessee:
The Morristown NWS Office echoes the concerns, with the highest threat area stretching across the Cumberland Plateau and southeast Tennessee. The most likely window for severe storms is from 7 PM to 1 AM EDT. Primary threats include damaging winds up to 70 mph, hail up to 1.25 inches, and a tornado or two, particularly in areas repeatedly hit by storms, where isolated flash flooding is also a concern.
