SEVIER COUNTY OFFICIALS SAY THEY ARE “OPEN FOR BUSINESS”

While firefighters continue their efforts to contain the blazes in and around Gatlinburg, Officials with Sevier County say that they are “open for business.” Access to Gatlinburg remains limited, but Mayor Mike Werner says that if you would like to show your support, you are welcome to come to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Wares Valley to spend tourist dollars. All those businesses were unharmed in the fires and are welcoming visitors. Winterfest is currently going on in the area, and Dollywood is reopening today. At last count, 11 people had died in the disaster with over 80 being treated for injuries. 700 structures had been destroyed and as of Thursday morning, fire crews from around the region had 10 percent of the fires contained. A 6 AM to 6 PM curfew remains in effect and the ATF has been called in to help with investigations and the FBI says that their Missing Persons Hotline has received 100 calls and they are following several leads. 266 people are currently being sheltered.
