SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED AFTER DRIVING THROUGH CONSTRUCTION ZONE IN CROSSVILLE
On December 4, 2025, at approximately 2:39 a.m., Deputy Zachary Early of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a black 2016 Chrysler van driven by 67-year-old Donald Horace Barnes of Sparta, Tennessee.
The stop occurred on Highway 70 North in Crossville after Barnes drove around road-closed signage and entered an area closed to the public for construction. During the stop, Barnes admitted he had no driver’s license. A records check confirmed his license was revoked due to failure to pay fines and revealed he was a registered sex offender whose vehicle registration did not appear in the sex offender registry as required.
Barnes was arrested on-view, double-locked handcuffs were applied, and he was transported to the Cumberland County Jail. He faces charges of Driving on Revoked/Suspended License and Violation of Sex Offender Registry, with a combined bond of $9,000 and a court date set for January 5, 2026. The incident report was approved on December 5, 2025.
