SHOES SWAPPED AND STOLEN: REWARDS CARD LEADS TO WARRANT FOR CROSSVILLE WOMAN
A local woman is facing theft charges after an incredibly bold shoe-switching scheme at a local business was caught on camera—and easily solved, thanks to her own rewards membership.
According to police reports released by the Crossville Police Department, Patrol Officer Matt Charlock responded to a local establishment on June 16, 2026, to investigate a theft that had occurred earlier in the month on June 5.
Store management provided Officer Charlock with surveillance footage from June 5, captured at approximately 2:58 PM (1458 hrs). The video showed a female suspect, clad in grey dress-like clothing, browsing the footwear section.
The woman selected a pair of black and white Under Armour shoes, put them directly onto her feet, and then placed her own old flip-flops inside the empty Under Armour box.
She then proceeded to the checkout line, handed the cashier the box containing her old footwear, and paid only for her other items. At no point was the shoe box scanned, nor did the suspect mention the swap. She then exited the store at approximately 3:41 PM (1541 hrs) wearing the stolen Under Armour shoes.
While the suspect managed to flee the scene in a silver Hyundai Santa Fe with an unreadable license plate, her clean getaway was short-lived.
Investigators easily cracked the case after discovering the suspect had scanned her personal store rewards membership during the transaction. The loyalty account flagged her name and provided a recent photograph, allowing police to positively identify her as Shelia Wilson.
Officer Charlock recorded the surveillance footage on his body-worn camera and subsequently filed an arrest warrant for theft against Wilson at the Cumberland County Justice Center.
The report, officially approved by reporting officers Josephua Mangas and Matt Charlock on the morning of June 16, lists the case status as pending with a warrant officially on file.
