SO-CALLED “ROUTE TO CITIZENSHIP” SCAM TARGETS ILLEGALS

Yesterday afternoon, 1057 News spoke with Investigator David Hamby of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, who reported a new scam he’s investigating on behalf of a victim who got taken for $1,000. This latest scam claims to offer a route to Canadian citizenship for those having difficulty obtaining their U.S. citizenship.

Hamby said these scammers prey upon those who may be in the country illegally, and are counting on folks being fearful of approaching law enforcement about a potential scam. He said the victim he met with yesterday was being pressured to pay an additional $2,800 when he decided to contact the sheriff’s office.
