SOUTH CAROLINA UBER DRIVER ARRESTED FOR DUI AND RECKLESS DRIVING IN CROSSVILLE

On December 11, 2025, at approximately 3:05 a.m., Deputy Holden Atkinson observed a white 2012 Chevrolet Malibu traveling at 60 mph on Dunbar Road in Crossville, Tennessee, initially believed to be a 30 mph zone but later corrected to 45 mph.
Deputy Aidyn Smith conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver, 25-year-old Loren James Lorenzen, an Uber driver from South Carolina, who exhibited slurred speech, red watery eyes, an odor of alcohol, and unsteady footing. Lorenzen admitted to consuming one pint of 8% alcohol Smirnoff (later changing his statement to two pints) several hours earlier, citing his low body weight as a factor in processing alcohol.
He consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, during which he showed multiple signs of impairment, including lack of smooth pursuit and nystagmus in the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, balance issues, improper steps, and arm usage in the Walk and Turn, and swaying and foot drops in the One Leg Stand. Lorenzen was arrested on-view for Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Driving, transported to the Cumberland County Jail, and his vehicle was secured at a nearby gas station.
A blood search warrant was obtained, and two vials of blood were drawn at Cumberland Medical Center at 4:39 a.m. for TBI lab analysis. Lorenzen was charged with DUI and reckless driving, with a court date set for January 12, 2026, and bonds of $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.
