SPARTA MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG AND EVIDENCE TAMPERING CHARGES AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

A 38-year-old Sparta resident was arrested late Monday night, September 15, after Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies pulled him over for driving a motorcycle without tags on Highway 70 West.
According to the incident report filed by Deputy Zachary Early, authorities stopped the black Suzuki motorcycle around 9:47 p.m. As deputies approached, Deputy Lynch witnessed the operator—identified as Lawrence Mack Parks—throw a cylindrical object from his right hand into a nearby ditch.
Upon investigation, officers recovered a glasses case from the ditch containing a glass pipe with burnt residue associated with drug consumption. Dispatch confirmed that Parks’ driver’s license was currently revoked.
Parks was taken into custody at 10:12 p.m. without further incident and transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office intake facility. His motorcycle was towed from the scene.
He faces multiple charges, including:
  • Tampering with Evidence (Felony, $10,000 bond)
  • Driving on a Revoked or Suspended License (Misdemeanor, $1,500 bond)
  • Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor, $1,500 bond)
Parks is scheduled to appear in court on October 26, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
