Sparta Police say a man was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday night. The incident happened around 8:00 PM at the intersection of Roberts Mathews Highway and Jim Hennessee Road. The victim was identified as 56-year-old William F. Woody, who died after being struck by a 2009 Volvo driven by 45-year-old Anthony Lawson of Sparta. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Lawson was traveling north on Roberts Mathews Highway when he failed to see Woody walking in the roadway and struck the man. At this time it is unknown whether or not charges will be filed.
