WHITE COUNTY, TN- Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 2 pm started a very busy day for the Sparta-White County Volunteer Rescue Squad with the extrication competition team starting their bi-weekly training session.
Just before 3 PM, Rescue was paged to an airplane crash on Pistole Road which turned out to be an automated dispatch alert but gave the wrong location, actual crash was in Dekalb Co with minor injuries.
When the team returned to the rescue station, they were dispatched again to a dog that was stuck over a bluff in Rimrock Messa on Bon Air Mountain. The team was successful in getting the dog to safety, with the member over the bluff (second time in two weeks) Jacob “Rescue Jake” Long was the person to get the dog.
The decision was made to go ahead and go to Scott’s Gulf to do another training, of finding the Rescue location points on the trail to Virgin Falls.
Just after turning onto Eastland Road, Rescue was paged at 8:30 pm to a motor vehicle wreck at DeRossett market, less than a half mile past Eastland Road. Heavy damage to the vehicles, but all patients, at the time of arrival, were walking and talking. Assist Chief decided to cancel training after the extremely occupied day.
