STANDOFF AT HEISKELL STORE NEAR I75 LEAVES ONE DEAD AND TWO ARRESTED

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Around 2:30 PM Tuesday an officer noticed someone driving 80 mph near the Walmart on Clinton Highway and tried to stop them.  Sheriff Spangler said this led to a chase when two of the three people in the car, Christopher Mincy and Katrina Ortiz, were taken into custody. Drea McKennedy Overbay attempted to get away, by hopping into a dump truck before getting into a Dollar General Store on East Raccoon Valley Drive. Before making it inside, the suspect shot at law enforcement who then returned fire, but the belief from Knoxville County Sheriff is that nobody was hit.

The store’s manager barricaded themself and an employee inside the store’s office and could watch Overbay through cameras. According to a report, SWAT team personnel and negotiators were at the store, and Sheriff Spangler said that the standoff lasted around 30 minutes.

Drea Overbay is deceased from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Ortiz is facing a charge of evading arrest according to the general sessions docket. Mincey is facing multiple charges, including evading arrest, reckless driving, and speeding the general sessions dockets say.
