STATE HO– USE AND SENATE WORKING ON E. TENNESSEE WILDFIRE BILLS
Two bills concerning recovery for victims of last November’s East Tennessee wildfires are advancing through the state House and Senate. Members of the Senate have preferred a proposal that would allow local governments to help clean debris on private property at the owner’s request. That would allow Gatlinburg to get reimbursed by FEMA for such cleanup but must first be approved by the House. Both the Senate and House have sanctioned a bill that would allow local governments, on a two-thirds vote, to offer tax relief on real and personal property that was damaged in the wildfire. That bill will soon go to the governor.
