STATE SENATE PASSES $37 BILLION BUDGET

The Tennessee Senate passed the new $37 billion fiscal year state budget Monday. The measure, which was approved on a 28-2 vote, is headed to Governor Haslam’s desk. There was some rough sailing for awhile last week when House members tried to increase spending in the millions, but the proposals were stripped out and the bill was passed. One major change that did remain was $55 million earmarked for use on county road programs. The Governor had previously designated some of those funds to go toward his highway and bridge projects. The new fiscal year begins on July 1.
