STEARNS ACCEPTS PLEA DEAL, TO BE SENTENCED TO JUST 17.5 YEARS FOR BRUTAL STABBING OF ELDERLY MAN
One of two individuals in Clinton County, Kentucky, originally charged with attempted murder in the brutal attack of an elderly man has accepted a stunning plea deal in his case. Along with the attempted-murder charge, Danny Joe Stearns also faced charges of robbery, assault and auto theft. Stearns, along with Lisa Sue York, was involved in an incident in November of 2016 on Bell Camp Road in Piney Woods when 77-year-old Bill Russell was stabbed numerous times and had his vehicle stolen. After the attack, Russell managed to walk to a nearby home to ask for help. According to the plea agreement, the Commonwealth recommended the theft and attempted murder charges be dismissed. Stearns pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and robbery for a 17.5 year sentence each to run concurrently – meaning he would spend a total of 17.5 years in prison. Stearns will officially be sentenced today (May 10, 2018) in Clinton County Circuit Court.
