STOLEN MOTORCYLE RECOVERED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On Friday night, Cumberland County deputies conducted a traffic stop on Westel Road, after observing a motorcycle operating without a resgistration plate.

The driver, later identified as Scott Staggs came to a stop at the Mountain Top Bar. When speaking with Mr. Staggs, he stated he didn’t think the motorcycle needed a plate due to it being 125cc’s and that he did not have the title yet. Mr. Staggs claimed he bought the motorcyle from a male named Zach Holmes for $1,000 and that he told him he had washed the title and was going to have to order a new one.

After not being able to prove ownership of the motorcyle, the deputy located the VIN number, which came back to being stolen from Elizabethtown, TN. Mr. Staggs alleged he had orginally traded a car to a man out of Rockwood for the motorcyle and then sold it to Zach Holmes and had just bought it back.

The orginally owners were found in Johnson City and did recover the motorcyle.

Scott was placed in custody and charged with Theft of Property-Vehicle with a bond of $5,000. He is set to appear in court March 13, 2023.
