STRONG WINDS PROMPT ADVISORY ACROSS EAST TENNESSEE

A Wind Advisory is in effect for parts of East Tennessee from 7 a.m. Thursday until 4 a.m. Friday, with strong south winds expected to impact both mountain and nearby counties. According to the National Weather Service, sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are forecast, with gusts reaching up to 45 miles per hour across the region. Isolated gusts could be even stronger—up to 60 miles per hour—at higher elevations such as Cove Mountain. The advisory includes Blount and Monroe counties, along with the Blount Smoky Mountains, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, and portions of Johnson, Carter, Greene, Unicoi, and Southeast Monroe counties. Forecasters warn that these gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects, knock down tree limbs, and cause a few power outages. The National Weather Service also cautions that driving could become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, and urges motorists to use extra care during the advisory period.
