SUBJECT WAS TRAPPED IN CAB AFTER CRASH ON I40 ON-RAMP YESTERDAY IN ROANE COUNTY

The eastbound on-ramp to I-40 at the Harriman/Rockwood exit remained closed much of yesterday afternoon due to an overturned tractor-trailer.

According to our Roane County news correspondent, Dudley Evans, the accident happened around 11:00 A.M. (eastern) Tuesday and the driver was reportedly trapped in the cab in the wreckage. After the Harriman fire, EMA staff and Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they were able to free the man from the wreckage, and he was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. The tractor-trailer was loaded with crushed cars and according to the THP, allegedly the load shifted after making one of the curves on the ramp flipping over onto its side and taking out several feet of guardrail. The ramp was closed for an estimated 8 hours for the clean-up.
The Tennessee highway patrol is investigating the accident.
