SUSPECT CHARGED AFTER TRYING TO FLEE FROM LOCAL DEPUTIES

Last Monday night, Cumberland County deputies were dispatched to the area of Bat Town Road after getting calls about a black BMW driving up and down the road at a high rate of speed. The car was then reported to be sitting in the middle of the roadway with no lights on.

Once deputies were in the area, they noticed the BMW matched the description heading towards them when the driver failed to dim their bright lights. When the deputy turned around, it was apparent the vehicle had ditched him.

Moments later, another call to dispatch came in stating there was a man in a BMW that pulled in behind a house and turned off all the lights of the vehicle.

When officers went to the address, the vehicle was unoccupied. When trying to locate the driver, the deputy noticed movement in a barbed wire fence and saw a man trying to conceal himself beneath some underbrush. The deputy gave commands to the male to which he would not comply. It was noted the male seemed to be under the influence of narcotics. After the assistance of another deputy, they were able to gain control of the suspect. He was identified as 42-year-old Jason Sherrill.

He alleged to the officers that he had seen a cop car while smoking a joint and then ditched his vehicle in the driveway of a family member. However, it was observed that Jason drove through the yard instead of using the driveway. According to the report, Jason was screaming people were after him from a local dollar store. He also mentioned that he would have shot the deputies if he would have had a gun, for trespassing, even though he was unwelcomed at the residence.

Dispatch advised Jason was a registered sex offender and the vehicle he had been driving was not registered properly.

Jason Sherrill was charged with:

  • Driving Under the Influence
  • Driving on Revoked/Suspended License
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Violation Sex Offender Registry
