SUSPECT GIVES FAKE NAME, FLEES ON FOOT, AND IS TASERED DURING ARREST AT BUC-EE’S TRAVEL PLAZA
On May 16, 2026, Officer Dustin Lester of the Crossville Police Department responded to the Travel Plaza and Buc-ee’s area regarding a reported shoplifting incident. While speaking with a male rear passenger in a vehicle, the individual initially identified himself as “Jake Yoder,” which was a fabricated name. He later provided his true identity as Zachary Sheer. Upon discovering the false information, Officer Lester attempted to place Sheer under arrest. As the officer turned him around, Sheer pulled away and fled on foot.
Officer Lester dropped his handcuffs, pursued Sheer, and ordered him to stop before deploying a taser. Both prongs made contact (middle left back and right leg above the cargo pants area), causing Sheer’s body to go rigid. He fell to the concrete and remained rigid until the taser cycle ended, after which his body went limp. Sheer was then rolled onto his stomach, where he continued to resist as officers pulled his arms behind his back and successfully handcuffed him.
He was secured in a patrol car. EMS responded to the scene; Sheer was evaluated, found to have only minor road rash, and declined further medical treatment. He was subsequently transported to the Justice Center for booking.
