SUSPECT IN HAMILTON PLACE MALL INCIDENT IDENTIFIED

Chattanooga Police Chief David Roddy says officers have identified a suspect in connection with Saturday night’s incident at Hamilton Place Mall, in what police refer to as an “aggravated riot.” Authorities have warrants out for 18-year-old David Ballard. They say they will release more information about him shortly. Chief Roddy reiterated that police have determined that no shots were fired during the incident, despite several witnesses saying they heard shots. Roddy says investigators found one shell casing outside the mall, but they determined it had nothing to do with the gun in question.

Roddy explained that a juvenile female was knocked to the ground as mall customers left the building, and that explains why “aggravated riot” charges are being filed. A person has to be injured to meet the conditions of that charge.
