SUSPECT SOUGHT AFTER WEEKEND KIDNAPPING IN CROSSVILLE

Multiple state, federal and local agencies are involved in a manhunt at this hour for a suspect in the kidnapping of a woman abducted Sunday from her home in Cumberland County.

At midafternoon, Crossville police were dispatched to Elite Market on Highway 127 North for a report of a man holding a woman at gunpoint in a car.

Police learned the victim left her purse with someone in the store; after finding her identification, Cumberland County deputies went to her home to begin their investigation.

Deputies issued a BOLO for the woman and 57-year-old George Edwin Hardin of Crossville. Hardin is on parole for first-degree murder, armed robbery and rape.

Clay County sheriff’s deputies later received a call that a woman in Obed River Market in Celina, Tennessee, was screaming, and the man she was with had a gun.

Officers responding to the market located the woman, who is now safe.

Hardin eluded police in western Clay County by running into the woods in the area of Chad Grace Road and Estis Sims Road.

Cumberland County deputies have issued warrants on Hardin for aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, armed dangerous felon, reckless endangerment an felony possession of a firearm.

Hardin is a white male, five foot ten inches tall, 207 pounds, with shaggy gray hair. He was last seen in a teal shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes, and is armed and dangerous.

If you see Hardin, do not approach him. Call 911 immediately.

Citizens in Clay County should expect a large police presence, comprising multiple law-enforcement agencies, as well as helicopter patrols.
