SUSPECT STEALS HARRIMAN POLICE CAR RESULTING IN HIGH SPEED CHASE

Harriman police spotted a wanted subject yesterday for felony warrants.

Officers say 38-year-old Timothy Andrew McDavid of Harriman ran into an abandoned house in an attempt to elude law enforcement. He was taken into custody after a physical altercation with officers.

Police handcuffed McDavid behind his back and placed him in the back of a Harriman police cruiser.

That is when things escalated.

McDavid moved his handcuffs around his feet to his front side. He damaged the sliding partition of the cruiser, got into the driver’s seat, and took off at a high rate of speed.

Officers pursued McDavid in the marked Harriman police vehicle.

McDavid nearly struck four motorists in his flight from law enforcement.

McDavid ultimately crashed the cruiser in a creek at Interstate 40 and Highway 27.

After the crash, McDavid ran from the vehicle and was apprehended again after another altercation with officers.

McDavid was taken to Roane Medical Center for treatment following the crash.

After his discharge from the hospital, he was taken to the Roane County jail.

McDavid was arrested for felony escape, vandalism, theft of property, aggravated kidnapping, assault of a law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting arrest, three counts of evading arrest, and six counts of aggravated assault.

He is being held without bond in the Roane County jail.
