T.H.P. INTERCEPTS UNSECURED HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL SHIPMENT IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A tractor-trailer driver in Cumberland County was recently cited by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) for transporting unsecured hazardous materials, creating a significant safety risk for both the driver and the public. During a traffic stop, a THP trooper discovered that several containers of boron trichloride were loose and rolling around on the trailer deck due to improper securement.

This colorless gas is known to irritate the eyes and, according to NOAA, can cause containers to rupture violently or even “rocket” if they are exposed to excessive heat. The incident highlights the critical importance of standardized chemical trailer codes, which allow motorists and first responders to identify dangerous cargo and understand the potential risks present on the roadway.
