TDOT ANNOUNCES CONTINUOUS LANE CLOSURES ON SR 1 IN WHITE COUNTY FOR SINKHOLE REPAIRS
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) began emergency repair work today on a growing sinkhole and ground slide system adjacent to State Route 1 in White County, just east of Crickett and Thacker Road.
The ground slide has expanded into the median and reached the shoulders of the left lanes in both directions. While the sinkhole is not directly on the pavement, excavation requires close proximity to travel lanes.
Key Details for Drivers:
-
Lane Closures: SR 1 is reduced to one lane in each direction near the work zone.
-
Timeline: The continuous closures are in effect from 7:00 AM today, Monday, August 24, through 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
-
Safety Precautions: Message boards are active, and motorists should watch for heavy trucks entering and exiting the site to deliver construction materials.
TDOT urges commuters to check travel conditions via the SmartWay Map or by calling 511 before heading out. Drivers are also reminded to put away distractions and adhere strictly to Tennessee’s Move Over Law when passing highway crews.
