TDOT LAUNCHES NEW ANTI-LITTER CAMPAIGN “NOBODY TRASHES TENNESSEE”

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has launched a new prevention campaign called “Nobody Trashes Tennessee.” The campaign will soon be placed on billboards and commercials, as well as communicated through educational programs and anti-litter promotional items. Officials say that the litter takes away from “beauty of the state”, and that it costs $15 million a year to clean up. A study conducted in 2016 found that though roadside trash is down 53 percent since 2006, there are still an estimated 100 million pieces of trash on Tennessee roadways. Littering, whether it is deliberate or not, is punishable under Tennessee law and can cost offenders $50 to $3,000 in fines.
