A 17-year-old male was hurt last night after he was struck by an Algood police cruiser near the intersection of Main Street and Cooper Road in Putnam County. The boy supposedly ran between vehicles as he attempted to cross the street and was hit by Sergeant Scotty Polson. The minor was airlifted to an area trauma center for treatment of injuries. A review of the footage from the vehicle shows the incident was an accident and the officer was driving below the speed limit at the time. Polson is a nine-year veteran of the police department with no history of vehicle accidents. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. The teen’s condition was not available.
