TENNESSEE CROP HARVEST/CATTLE REPORT FOR SEPT. 3, 2018
FIELD AND CROP REPORT
Corn harvest was active over the past week, with good yields reported. Soybean and cotton harvest are expected to start in the coming week. Cooler temperatures stimulated pasture growth. There were 6 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture rated 6 percent very short, 27 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture rated 10 percent very short, 31 percent short, 58 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
CROP CONDITIONS – Dough Stage Corn is at 100 percent, dented corn is 93 percent, mature corn is 47 percent, harvested corn is 9 percent, setting bolls cotton is 100 percent, bolls opening cotton is 52 percent, dropping leaves soybeans is 9 percent and cut tobacco is 35 percent.
CROP CONDITIONS
Corn – 7 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 56 percent good and 18 percent excellent
Tobacco – 1 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 69 percent good and 15 percent excellent
Cotton – 1 percent poor, 10 percent fair, 54 percent good and 35 percent excellent
Pasture – 1 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 43 percent good and 10 percent excellent
Soybeans – 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 54 percent good and 19 percent excellent
Cattle – 2 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 67 percent good and 13 percent excellent
TEMPERATURE/RAIN REPORT FOR CROSSVILLE
For the week ending September 3, the average temperature was 74 degrees with a high of 86 and a low of 65. For the current week, .35 inches of rain was recorded bringing the total rain for the year to 50.95 inches.
