TENNESSEE DEATH ROW INMATE MILLER ELECTROCUTED THURSDAY NIGHT

A long, drawn-out drama was finished Thursday night as Tennessee death row inmate David E. Miller was electrocuted. He was pronounced dead at 7:25 PM. Miller had been on death row for years after being convicted of the murder of Lee Standifer, a mentally challenged female, in 1981. She had been beaten and stabbed several times with a fireplace poker. Miller’s attorneys had requested several stays-of-execution on the grounds that the states chosen method of execution, lethal injection was inhumane. Gov. Bill Haslam denied Miller’s last plea, as did the Supreme Court hours before his death. His last words were something to the effect of “beats being on death row.”
