TENNESSEE HO– USE PASSES BILL FOR WINE SALES IN GROCERY STORES ON SUNDAY

The Tennessee House of Representatives has passed a bill that would allow wine sales in grocery stores on Sundays and some holidays. Wine sales are currently prohibited on Sunday and all major holidays. The bill was approved by a 55-35 vote. The bill would also permit liquor stores to operate seven days a week immediately, while delaying wine sales on Sunday in grocery stores until January 1. Wine sales would still be prohibited on Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. The bill also places caps on the number of licenses for liquor stores for three years and allows liquor stores to mark up their products by 10 percent. The state Senate is set to take up their version of the bill tomorrow.
