TENNESSEE NAMED #1 IN THE AP TOP 25 BASKETBALL POLL THIS WEEK

Tennessee was named the No. 1 basketball team in the nation on Monday. It’s only the second time that the men have been at that position. Tennessee moved from No. 3 to No. 1 in week 12 of the Associated Press Top 25 Poll after defeating Alabama to remain perfect in conference play. Tennessee received 48 of 64 first-place votes. Duke received 11 first-place votes while Virginia received three. Tennessee hasn’t garnered the No. 1 ranking since 2008 when they bested a then-No. 1 Memphis Tigers team in a battle of the nation’s highest ranked teams. The Vols held the rank for just one week after they lost to a Vanderbilt Commodores team ranked No. 18 at the time. Tennessee will travel to Nashville to play Vanderbilt on Wednesday in their first game as the newly top-ranked team.
