TENNESSEE PARAMEDIC CHARGED WITH STEALING DRUGS FROM AMBULANCE, REPLACING WITH SALT WATER

A Sumner County paramedic faces state and federal charges for allegedly stealing drugs from his ambulance and replacing them with salt water.

Travis Alan Stenberg was a licensed paramedic working for Sumner County Emergency Medical Services (EMS). He is accused of violating the paramedic’s oath.

According to court documents, Stenburg removed controlled substances from vials on his ambulance, including fentanyl, morphine and ketamine.

Prosecutors say he got into locked narcotics boxes and replaced those drugs with saline solution.

Stenburg is in a world of trouble. Tara Wyllie, the Sumner County District Attorney Assistant says he’s charged with, “One count of official misconduct, three counts of theft of property- $1,000 or less, 4 counts of obtaining controlled substance by fraud, one count of obtaining legend drug by fraud, and one count of reckless endangerment. ”

Wyllie says the most concerning part about this case is the position that Stenburg was in.

She says, “We have someone who was in a position of trust. And he was supposed to be protecting these medications and using them in a proper way and instead used those drugs for his own personal benefit. And that’s alarming and concerning for the public.”
