TENNESSEE RANKED 1ST IN THE NATION FOR ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING DEATHS
Tennessee is now ranked first in the nation for fatal accidental shootings according to the non-partisan group Safe Tennessee Project. The group says that their statistics come from the Centers for Disease Control. In 2013, The Volunteer State ranked 9th overall with 19 people dying from accidental gunshot wounds. In 2014 that number jumped to 105. The numbers are startling but the organization says that the numbers from the CDC were uploaded directly from state health departments. Those numbers were then confirmed by the Tennessee Dept. of Health.
