TENNESSEE SENATE PASSES NEW ABORTION BILL

The state Senate has passed a new abortion bill that would address a ban on the operations after 20 weeks should the doctor find that the fetus is sustainable. The ban would not apply in medical emergencies or if the mother faces risks of death or serious damage to a major bodily function. Democratic opponents argued that the legislation would affect women in high-risk pregnancies. Republicans that are in support of the bill say it will protect innocent life. The measure was sponsored by Republican Sen. Joey Hensley, who is a physician himself.
