TENNESSEE’S GROCERY TAX HOLIDAY ENDS AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT
If you have enjoyed saving sales tax on your groceries over the past month, you had better stock up, today is the last day Tennesseans can shop for groceries tax-free! The state is still under a month-long grocery tax-free holiday through midnight tonight.
The tax-free items are unprepared food, from fresh to frozen vegetables, meat, fruit and canned goods are all tax-free. What is not tax-free are items like candy, alcohol, tobacco, dietary supplements, and prepared food.
The month-long grocery tax holiday began on August 1st. The grocery tax returns to 4% on Sept. 1.
Governor Bill Lee put the measure in place to help with the rising costs of inflation.
