THEFT REPORTED FROM SPARTA HIGHWAY BUSINESS

Wednesday afternoon, Cumberland County deputies responded to The Garden Center on Sparta Highway for a theft. A witness reported multiple suspects loading concrete bird baths and memorial items into a gray Nissan Altima.

After reviewing surveillance footage, authorities were able to retrieve the registration tag, which came back to an address in Grimsley. Deputies contacted the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office and a suspect is being sought.

Later in the day, a detective from Fentress County called the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office to say a gray Nissan was in the driveway of the suspect’s home, but had a different tag and, according to the police report, “appeared to have been there for a while.”

A decorative concrete item matching the description of one stolen from the shop was also found on the premises.

The detective reported no one at the home would answer the door, and a relative who lives there has an active warrant for her arrest.
