Three children were injured in a single-vehicle accident at the 284 eastbound mile marker of I-40 in Putnam County yesterday. Troopers say 30-year-old Curtis A. Ferguson of Cookeville was charged with failure to exercise due care. A 5-year-old and 8-year-old in the vehicle were airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. Ferguson and a 1-year-old were taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The accident report stated the 8-year-old was not restrained properly. Officials say the proper use of a child-restraint device would have made a difference in the outcome of the crash.
