The latest statistics on handgun permits have been released by the Tennessee Dept. of Homeland Security. The department says that 7,382 residents carry valid handgun permits in Cumberland County while there are over 8000 handgun permit holders in Putnam County. Roane County reports just over 7200 permit holders, Rhea has 3,427, Bledsoe 1,513 and Morgan County has 2,626 permit holders. Shelby County recorded the most handgun permit holders standing at 68,539. Statewide, 628,427 people carry permits. That’s 9 percent of the state’s residents.
