A confirmed tornado caused damage in Morgan and Scott County late this afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Morgan County at 4 p.m. central today (Tuesday, April 2, 2024). The rotation approached the Sunbright area with a cell of hail in front of it.

Neither Morgan nor Scott County was included in a tornado watch when the tornado hit. Both were barely outside the watch box to the east.

Morgan County EMA reported they received multiple reports of a tornado touchdown in the Sunbright area.

Schubert Funeral Home in Sunbright sustained significant damage.

Trees were reported down in several areas including on Hugh Jones Road.

Highway 27 in Sunbright was closed as numerous trees covered the road from the tornado.

Morgan County EMA set up a command post at Pilot Mountain Church to send crews to survey the damage and assist citizens.

Just minutes later, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Scott County. A tornado was spotted 4 miles from Huntsville.

An emergency shelter has been set up at Central High School.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Morgan County E-911 reported that everyone was accounted for and there had not been any fatalities reported.

This is a developing story. Authorities will release more information at a later time.
