TRACTOR-TRAILER DRIVER ISSUED CITATION AFTER ACCIDENT ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a tractor-trailer driver received a citation following a crash on Thursday in eastern Cumberland County that closed westbound lanes of I-40 for hours.
The report states that 43-year-old Joseph D. Maynard was traveling west at the 334-mile marker between Crab Orchard and Westel when the tractor-trailer left the roadway and struck a cable barrier.
Maynard corrected back onto the roadway and lost his connection with the trailer he was hauling.
Troopers say Maynard was transporting a container containing aluminum dross, a hazardous waste that is the byproduct of aluminum refinement. It spilled onto the roadway and into the median when it tipped over, coming to rest in the left lane.
The vehicle’s cab continued across the roadway before tipping on its driver’s side, finally resting on the right shoulder.
Maynard was not injured.
He was issued a citation for failure to maintain a lane of travel.
