TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO LARGE DRUG BUST IN OAK RIDGE
Oak Ridge Police officers discovered large quantities of illegal narcotics during a traffic stop for speeding on Wednesday.
At approximately 12:00 PM Officer Drummond conducted a traffic stop on a black Ram 1500 for traveling 60 MPH on S. Illinois AVE in a 45 MPH zone. When officers approached, a faint odor of marijuana could be detected from the vehicle. The driver, Jason Nicklaus Smith (40) of Montana, was unwilling to cooperate.
Inv. R. Gibson deployed his K9 partner Khaos for a free air sniff who alerted him to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, a cooler containing THC vapes, THC butter, THC oils, and approximately 2 lbs of Mushrooms “shrooms” were found in the backseat area. In two containers on the camper shell area of the truck bed, officers located 67 sealed packages of marijuana.
In total, officers located approximately 68 lbs of Marijuana, 2 lbs of Mushrooms, a 9mm pistol, and a large, undetermined amount of US currency. Smith is being held at Anderson County Detention Facility for charges of Manufacturing/Delivery/Sell of a Schedule I narcotic, Manufacturing/Delivery/Sell of a Schedule VI narcotic, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
