TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN METH, MARIJUANA, AND IMPERSONATION CHARGES

On August 29, 2025, Officer Matt Charlock conducted a traffic stop on a gray Lexus on North Main Street near SK Mart Gas Station after discovering the vehicle’s owner, Jerry Jared, had a revoked driver’s license due to a prior DUI.
Upon confirming Jared was driving, Officer Charlock detected the odor of marijuana from the vehicle. Jared admitted his license was revoked and suggested the female passenger, later identified as Heather Marie Melton, might have marijuana. Both were detained, and Specialist Grant arrived to assist.
A search of Melton revealed two baggies containing suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, while a vehicle search uncovered a syringe, a marijuana grinder, and additional suspected marijuana and cocaine in Melton’s purses. Melton admitted to providing a false driver’s license and confirmed the substances were hers. Jared, who had an active warrant in Overton County, later admitted to hiding marijuana on his person, which was found in the patrol car.
Both were arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center. The seized narcotics weighed approximately 0.85 grams of cocaine, 4.00 grams of methamphetamine, and 6.22 grams of marijuana. Four warrants were issued for Melton (criminal impersonation, felony possession of methamphetamine, and simple possession of cocaine and marijuana), and one for Jared (simple possession of marijuana).
The seized items were processed, and the narcotics were sent for lab testing, while the false driver’s license was returned to the state.
