TRAFFIC STOP UNCOVERS HEROIN

Sergeant Chrystal Massey of the Crossville Police Department called out a reckless driver on Sparta Highway on Saturday at around 5:33 p.m.
A white Nissan truck was seen traveling southbound on Sparta Drive driving off of the shoulder of the roadway. Officer Massey made a U-turn to contact the truck where she initiated a traffic stop on Sunset Drive. The driver was identified as William Jackson who stated he hadn’t had any kind of alcohol or illicit substances. Dispatch confirmed he had a suspended license.
As Jackson stepped out of the vehicle for sobriety tests, a blue plastic container with aluminum foil was located in the vehicle. A substance within the foil was confirmed to be 4.71 g of heroin.
After being read his Miranda rights, Jackson said he uses Subutex and had consumed two of them that day. He said he had not used the heroin that day but it was his and that his friend possibly left it in the vehicle after previously using it. Jackson claims he is trying to stay clean.
After observing extreme body tremors during the sobriety tests, Officer Massey deemed Jackson not safe to operate a vehicle while under the influence of a mind-altering substance.
Jackson was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center. He was charged with driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence, and simple possession.
