TRIAL DATE SET FOR ROANE COUNTY VS. TVA AND JACOBS ENGINEERING REGARDING ASH SPILL

A trial date has been set in a Knoxville federal court in regards to Roane County and the cities of Kingston and Harriman’s lawsuit against TVA and Jacobs Engineering Group. The lawsuit is about the ash spill that took place nearly 11 years ago and the aftermath it caused Roane County. It has been tentatively set to start March 23, 2021. On December 22, 2008, a dike holding back over 5 million cubic yards of fly ash ruptured spilling onto 300 acres of the Swan Pond area and into the Emory River. The disaster took several years to cleanup and cost billions of dollars. In the aftermath, several of those on cleanup crews filed lawsuits against TVA and Jacob’s Engineering because of illnesses or even deaths which have been attributed to the toxic waste.
