TRIAL FOR FATAL CHATTANOOGA SCHOOL BUS DRIVER BEGINS TUESDAY

The man who is charged with the deaths of six students in the wreck of a Chattanooga school bus in November 2016 goes to trial Tuesday. Johnthony Walker is charged with six counts of vehicular homicide after he crashed a school bus carrying over 30 students of Woodmore Elementary School. Killed in the crash were 8-year-old Keonte Wilson, 9-year-old Cor’Dayja Jones, 6-year-old D’Myunn Brown, 6-year-old Zyaira Mateen, 9-year-old Zoie Nash, and 10-year-old Zyanna Harris. Several other children were injured. Police say that Walker was speeding when he ran off the roadway and crashed into a tree. He has pleaded not-guilty to the charges. Walker’s attorney says that he was trying to dodge an oncoming vehicle when the accident took place. Investigators say that Walker was on his cell phone at the same time. The jury for this case comes from Montgomery County, located north of Nashville.
