TWO AIRLIFTED AFTER BOATING ACCIDENT THIS WEEKEND

DANDRIDGE, Tenn.- On Saturday around 2:25 PM, six girls were on an innertube pulled by a boat on Douglas Lake in Dandridge, Tennessee. Four of the girls were thrown off while the boat continued to pull the other two girls still on the innertube. A second boat was behind the first one and didn’t see the girls in the water. The second boat’s propellor hit two of the girls causing lacerations to them both. The boats picked up the girls and took them to Smoky Mountain H2O Sports, the location that rented out the boats. The 16-year-old and 17-year-old injured girls received some medical care on the scene but were soon airlifted to UT Medical Center.

Both of the girls are Knoxville natives. According to a TWRA spokesperson, the 17-year-old girl may be released Monday, but the 16-year-old will need a longer stay for additional surgeries to repair the propeller injuries to her upper arm.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating.
