Late Friday night, when Cumberland County deputies initiated a routine traffic stop, they noticed the driver, 24-year-old Jodie Camrin Wright, appeared overly nervous. She admitted to being on probation for “many reasons” and, when asked if there was anything illegal in the car, her hands shook, she said no and started to cry. Asked again if there was anything illegal in the car, she said she didn’t know.

When deputies asked Wright for consent to search the car, her passenger, 24-year-old Jacob Thomas Reed, replied, “We don’t have time for that.”

Deputies asked Wright to exit the vehicle, at which point she reportedly “became hysterical,” continuing to cry and saying she didn’t want to lose her kid. She said she didn’t know what was in the car, which she said belonged to another woman.

Reed said he had just bought the car from that other woman.

The arrest report states when deputies asked Reed to exit the vehicle, “he instantly became hostile” to them. He did, however, give consent to a search of his person. Then, as they began to search him, Reed became hostile again “and began to refuse search and attempted to push away from” a deputy searching him.

Deputies deployed K-9 Apollo, who gave multiple indicators of drugs in the vehicle.

As Apollo was beginning his search, Reed admitted he had a pipe in his pants, aluminum foil in the glove compartment and meth in the car.

Deputies found meth, along with a syringe in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard.

Wright said she had a pill bottle in her bra, containing four pills that belonged to Reed. They were identified as Opana. She also had a small amount of meth in a cigarette pack in her pocket.

Wright was charged with simple possession of a Schedule II narcotic and placed under $3,500 bond. Reed was charged with manufacture, sale, delivery or possession of meth, simple possession and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed under $8,500 bond. Both are due in court April 22.

The child inside the vehicle was released to a friend and taken to a safe location.
