TWO ARRESTS AFTER POLICE CHASE ON 1-40 IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On 1/26/23 around 10:05 P.M., Cumberland County deputies attempted a traffic stop on a red Pontiac Grand Prix car for speeding. According to the report, the vehicle was traveling westbound on I-40 at 90 mph in a 70 mph speed zone.

After deputies initiated their blue lights, the vehicle accelerated, weaving in and out of traffic and reaching speeds up to 105mph. The deputy also noted that the vehicle registration was incorrect and the tag was registered for a Ford Bronco. Spike strips were deployed around the Crab Orchard exit, which was effective.  About 5 miles later, the vehicle slowed down to approximately 14 mph and veered off to the right shoulder of the road and behind a guardrail beside Eroh Road. The male driver jumped a barbed wire fence, crossed Eroh Road, and fled into a wooded area on foot.

Another deputy spotted the male subject in a creek bed, face down attempting to hide from the authorities.

41-year-old Dustin Ryan Stubbs, of Kingston, was placed in custody. Mr. Stubbs had a revoked license and an active Felony Capias Warrant out of Morgan County for Burglary, Possession of a Firearm, and Theft.

Dustin was also charged with:

  • Felony Evading Arrest
  • Evading Arrest
  • Driving on a Revoked License

A female passenger located in the car was identified as Christina Dopel, age 33. She was also detained for having two active warrants out of Roane County for Child Support and Failure to Appear.
