ORIGINAL STORY:
On July 18, 2025, at 3:06 PM CDT, a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 Eastbound at Mile Marker 315 in Cumberland County has caused significant traffic disruptions. The right lane and right shoulder of the two-lane eastbound roadway are blocked, forcing all traffic into a single lane and creating a bottleneck. Multi-vehicle crashes often involve complex emergency responses, including police, fire, and medical services, which can prolong clearance times and extend delays. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes, such as Highway 70, to avoid the severe congestion expected in this area.
Simultaneously, a disabled vehicle on Interstate 40 Westbound at Mile Marker 342 in Roane County, reported at 3:18 PM CDT, is further contributing to traffic issues. The left lane and left shoulder of the two-lane westbound roadway are blocked, reducing westbound traffic to a single lane. Located near Rockwood, this incident is causing significant delays as it affects traffic heading toward Knoxville. Drivers should consider alternate routes, such as US 27 or Highway 70, to bypass the affected area and mitigate delays.
